Disinfection starts with cleaning
Disinfection starts with cleaning because disinfectants cannot work through soil. Dirt, oils and residue form a barrier that keeps the product from reaching the surface. Cleaning first removes that barrier, so the disinfectant contacts the actual surface and can do its job. Skipping the cleaning step is the most common reason disinfection falls short.
The label sets the dwell time, and the dwell time is not optional. Every EPA-registered disinfectant lists how long the surface must stay wet for the product to work as claimed. Wiping it dry too soon stops the process before it finishes. We apply the product and let it sit for the full label time before anything is touched or used.
Soft surfaces and hard surfaces are different jobs. Hard surfaces can be sprayed and left wet for the dwell time. Soft surfaces like carpet and upholstery absorb the product, so coverage and contact work differently, and not every disinfectant is made for them. Disinfection also has honest limits: it treats the surfaces we cover at the time of service. It cannot promise a space stays disinfected after people use it again.

No. Cleaning removes soil; disinfecting kills germs on clean surfaces. We do both, in that order.

Can you disinfect without cleaning first?

Does disinfection keep a waiting room germ-free for weeks?
No. Disinfection treats the surfaces at the time of service. Once people use the space again, new soil and germs arrive, which is why recurring visits exist.
